Researchers generate these antibodies by introducing human recombinant proteins into animals and harvesting the resulting antibodies. Maintaining commercial supply often requires continuous animal use.</p>
<p data-start="422" data-end="601">Our Aptamarker platform eliminates the need for animals in biomarker discovery. It uses chemically synthesized DNA oligonucleotides applied directly to human biological samples.</p>
<p data-start="603" data-end="1047">Unlike traditional methods that train probes against single recombinant proteins, Aptamarker applies a deep library of 268 million probes to each sample. This allows direct interaction with proteins in their natural context, revealing structural and functional states as they exist in vivo. This is crucial because many diseases arise not from isolated proteins but from changes in protein function and interactions within biological systems.</p>
<p data-start="1049" data-end="1230">Aptamarker is the only platform capable of characterizing these functional protein changes in any protein, from any species, offering a true paradigm shift in biomarker discovery.</p>

This collaboration combines cutting-edge technology with world-class expertise to advance research in infectious diseases.</p>
<p data-start="633" data-end="1255">The Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) is the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development. It is a globally recognized multidisciplinary organization that works closely with developing countries, particularly in intertropical regions and the Mediterranean. IRD has a long history of driving innovative research in biology, health, and environmental sciences. Dr. Arthur Talman, an internationally renowned researcher, leads pioneering work in applying transcriptomics to infectious disease agents. His expertise provides critical insight for the partnership’s focus on malaria research.</p>
<p data-start="1257" data-end="1686">The first collaborative project will apply the Aptamarker platform to study single-cell proteomics in <em data-start="1359" data-end="1382">Plasmodium falciparum</em>, the parasite responsible for malaria. Specifically, the project will investigate the molecular mechanisms involved in sexual reproduction and transmission of the parasite. By leveraging the Aptamarker platform, researchers will gain unprecedented insight into protein states at the single-cell level.</p>
<p data-start="1688" data-end="2015">The Aptamarker platform offers a high-plex proteomics approach, enabling comprehensive coverage across diverse species samples. Unlike traditional methods, it directly characterizes proteins in their native cellular context. This allows researchers to uncover functional changes and interactions that drive disease processes.</p>
<p data-start="2017" data-end="2387">Through this partnership, IRD-Montpellier and NVBE aim to accelerate scientific discovery, enhance understanding of malaria transmission, and demonstrate the power of the Aptamarker platform in cutting-edge proteomics research. This collaboration sets the stage for future projects applying animal-free, high-resolution biomarker discovery to global health challenges.</p>

By analyzing proteins directly in human plasma, the Aptamarker Platform revealed insights that traditional biomarker approaches might miss, underscoring its transformative potential in human diagnostics and biomarker discovery.</p>								</div>

									<p data-start="180" data-end="533">In this study, researchers focused on predicting brain amyloid-β deposition using plasma samples. Brain amyloid-β plaques represent a key risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers compared cognitively normal individuals over the age of 70. Participants differed in the level of brain amyloid detected through PET scans in the INSIGHT study group.</p><p data-start="535" data-end="969">Researchers performed positive selection using plasma from individuals with high brain amyloid levels. They performed negative selection using plasma from individuals with low brain amyloid levels. This approach enriched the aptamer library for relevant molecular signals. Researchers then applied the selected library to plasma samples from 22 individuals. Eleven individuals had high brain amyloid levels, and eleven had low levels.</p><p data-start="971" data-end="1292">Researchers used next-generation sequencing to analyze each selected library and measure the frequency of 10,000 aptamer sequences. They then evaluated these sequences using sparse partial least squares discriminant analysis. This analysis aimed to identify sequences that explained variation in brain amyloid deposition.</p><p data-start="1294" data-end="1738">The analysis identified a subset of 44 aptamers. Researchers synthesized these aptamers individually. They then applied the aptamer panel to plasma samples from 70 cognitively normal individuals over the age of 70. Fifty-four samples formed the training set, while fifteen samples formed the test set. The model misclassified three individuals in the test set. Overall, the model achieved 80% accuracy, with 86% sensitivity and 75% specificity.</p><p data-start="1740" data-end="1843">These aptamers function directly as biomarkers. For this reason, researchers call them Aptamarkers.</p><p data-start="1845" data-end="2114">The first human test application of the Aptamarker platform demonstrates a new path for biomarker discovery. Researchers can screen plasma broadly without relying on predefined targets. This approach may support earlier disease detection and deeper biological insights.</p>								</div>

									<p data-start="120" data-end="1018">NeoNeuro announced today that the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) invested in the company through its Diagnostics Accelerator. The initiative aims to fast-track development of novel biomarkers for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The investment supports the project titled “Extension study to determine brain Aβ status in blood with Aptamarkers.” Through this funding, NeoNeuro will expand research on using Aptamarkers to detect brain amyloid status in blood samples. The award enables NeoNeuro to analyze samples from 500 individuals across multiple cohorts. These cohorts include the Australian Imaging, Biomarker &amp; Lifestyle Flagship Study of Ageing. By studying this large, diverse dataset, NeoNeuro aims to validate Aptamarkers’ ability to predict brain amyloid status. This research supports earlier detection of Alzheimer’s disease.</p>
<p data-start="1020" data-end="1676">NeoNeuro pioneered the use of aptamers, single-stranded oligonucleotides that mimic antibodies by binding to target molecules. “We use enriched aptamer libraries in a non-hypothesis-driven, agnostic approach to discover biomarkers,” said Gregory Penner, PhD, President &amp; Founder. “These biomarkers include proteins, metabolites, non-coding RNA, and complexes of these molecules.”<br data-start="1403" data-end="1406" />“We then use Aptamarkers as a tool to measure these biomarkers directly,” Dr. Penner added. This approach moves beyond linear associations between single biomarkers and a trait. It employs machine learning to delineate patterns across many interrelated biomarkers.</p>
<p data-start="1678" data-end="1932">Dr. Penner explained, “Substantial advances in treating diseases like cancer first required earlier, more personalized diagnosis.” “For complex diseases like Alzheimer’s, more advanced diagnostic approaches are necessary to achieve similar outcomes.”</p>
<p data-start="1934" data-end="2259">Howard Fillit, M.D., Founding Executive Director and Chief Science Officer at ADDF, said: “Alzheimer’s is a complex disease caused by many factors. 									<p data-start="712" data-end="1252">We show that all biomarker discovery programs fundamentally depend on contrasting phenotypes to detect meaningful differences. In our work, we explored how these contrasts vary based on biomarker type, including genetic markers, proteins, metabolites, non-coding RNA, and pathogenic epitopes. Using our Aptamarkers platform, we demonstrated the ability to identify pathogenic epitopes in an agnostic, non-hypothesis-driven manner, avoiding the constraints of pre-existing assumptions about disease mechanisms.</p>
<p data-start="1254" data-end="1631">We highlight that limiting biomarker discovery to molecules already believed to play a role in AD pathophysiology imposes unnecessary constraints. By contrast, our approach uses complex contrasts and mathematical models to capture the multifactorial nature of Alzheimer’s disease, enabling the detection of novel biomarkers and patterns that traditional methods may miss.</p>
<p data-start="1254" data-end="1631">Our study emphasizes that agnostic, data-driven biomarker discovery accelerates understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. By moving beyond hypothesis-based selection, researchers can uncover new, informative biomarkers. The Aptamarkers platform exemplifies how innovative technologies can enhance discovery, supporting earlier diagnosis and enabling more effective interventions.</p>								</div>
